well you would need a Business degree or something to learn how to successfully run a business.
or who knows maybe someone would hire you with no credentials but I doubt it

i began my own wedding planning business with no training and no credentials but if i had it to do all over again, i would take some courses and get a certificate at least.
doing a wedding for a family member or a friend is vastly different from doing one for a total stranger who is paying you to be professional and excellent.
depending upon where you live, it can be very very hard to break into the wedding industry as a new business. it requires money and a great deal of time spent networking with other wedding professionals in your area and convincing them to refer business to you.
you will need to have contracts for your customers to sign, business cards, a web site and email address and you should advertise in wedding magazines…especially your local wedding guides. you should also participate in local wedding shows….which charge a fee to enter. that is pretty costly so in all you should plan to have about 5 or 6 thousand dollars for your intitial investment.
you might want to do a wedding for at least one more acquaintance before you invest funds in your own business….or perhaps look for a wedding planning company that will let you work for them or even do volunteer apprenticeship work.
check online for courses you can take. some are only around 1000.

Everyone wants to be a wedding planner once they planned their own or somebody in their families wedding. It doesn’t take any education per-say, but it does take a lot of knowledge about weddings and event planning. There is a lot of pressure involved when you are responsible for someones $100,000 day and most people who want to get into this don’t have the drive or the passion. You don’t make a ton of money at it and it can be thankless.

most non-related people won’t have you plan their wedding unless you have a good amount of experience under your belt
my cousin’s plan is to work for a local venue that holds weddings for a while to build up her resume – and it’s a good plan!
working on the inside is a great idea – even for a florist, dj, photographer, etc. will get you some helpful knowledge
make sure you create a portfolio of things you’ve done in the past – as of now that’s just your sister’s wedding…any time a friend or family member is getting married offer to plan it for free (or at least really cheap) so you can build up your portfolio/resume
it’s a good idea to at least take some business/hospitality courses to learn how to handle things if your business does work out
also, build up a prefered vendor list – people you have a business relationship with and may be willing to give your brides a price break or something – always good to have connections!
good luck!
