Why am I always attracted to girls that are taken?

One thing i noticed about myself is that Im always attracted to girls that are already taken. There never seems to be a girl that I am interested in getting to know, or asking out, that is single. Mainly because well there are no single girls around the age 18-24. It seems that girls that are taken have qualities that single girls don’t have. Like for example being real, mature, funny, really confident and outgoing.
Why is this?

I have resorted to doing disgusting things with my mouth such as desensitizing my gag reflex and all that it entails (i.e. gargling baby batter).
