Article by Carolina Sandusky

As the internet grows in popularity so does online marriage counseling. Online marriage counseling has many benefits that traditional therapy does not. So what makes online counseling better than traditional therapy?

There is no waiting.

Traditionally, if you wanted to set up marriage counseling you would have to go through the long drawn out process of finding the right therapist for you, setting up an appointment, and making sure that you can afford it. With online marriage counseling you can be set up and ready to go in just a few minutes. When counseling online you can do all this almost instantaneously.

The schedule revolves around you, not the counselor.

Couples with problems find it hard to agree on many things. In fact, a partner’s schedule is oftentimes the point of contention in a marriage. By going through online marriage counseling, you can set up a time that is good for both of you without waiting for the counselor’s schedule.

You can reread and process the information better.

When you go to see a traditional therapist, your there for an hour or so, then you go home. It can be hard to cram all the info that you need to remember into a short session like this. With online marriage counseling you typically get materials that you can study at your own pace.

It’s more discreet than traditional therapy.

When I was going through a rough patch in my marriage, I definitely did not want to broadcast it to the world! My husband and I felt that we could keep our problems private if we did our counseling online. And you know what? It helped as be more honest with ourselves too. I felt more comfortable talking about my feelings.

More choice.

Instead of being limited to your local area, online marriage counseling allows you to choose from counselors and therapists all over the world. You can choose the perfect counselor for you and your partner by reading through their website, asking questions, and investigating what their philosophy is. You can also see if they have feedback or testimonials about their work.

It’s just the two of you.

An offline counselor can interrupt and interject. An online presentation gives a couple an opportunity to talk through what they’ve read or seen. This is invaluable, because after a counselor is gone, the two people in the marriage remain. It’s imperative that they do the work together, and online marriage counseling makes that a little easier.

It’s more cost effective.

I don’t know about you, but I’m not a person that can just throw loads of money around for therapy that might not even work. That’s why I decided to go with online counseling. The package I got cost around 77 dollars and had a generous return policy. Try getting your money back from a counselor that you have to meet with face to face!

Online marriage counseling helped me and my husband resolve the conflicts that were causing problems in our marriage. We still fight, but, now we know how to do it productively and effectively. We no longer harbor feelings of resentment towards each other, and that has really helped our marriage a whole lot.

My husband and I have been married for twenty years , we have two kids they are 15 and 12. Lately we are having a lot of arguments about how to raise them the correct way . We also have some other issues also . But will he finally listen to me and understand my frustration?

Best answer:

Answer by just_my_opinion
It depends on the people. In some cases it works wonders, but in other cases it doesn’t work at all. In order for it to work, both people have to be open to it and willing to allow it to work (if someone is going for no reason other than to get their spouse off their back, chances are it’s not going to make a bit of difference)

Answer by LadyHewitt
I have never tried or done this but i am sure if they are licensed to do so I dont see why this would not be legal….. Most online counseling sites offer help through email and phone lines as well!
Also some people or couples are embarrassed to go to someone in person and would rather go online.

Answer by Alyssa’s Mommy
I think that if you both really want it to work, then counseling may help. If either of you already have the “I’m done” mentality, then it probably won’t. All you can do is try. Good luck with everything:)
I’ve never been through marriage counseling, but I honestly think we may be headed there too!

My husband and I are been going trough some problems so we are thinking of going to marriage counseling. And I would like to know what was the outcome for you guys that been or are attending marriage/couple counseling. Please only answer if you do have experience on counseling. And be respectful. Thank you for your time.

Answer by Hailey Anne
To be quite honest with you, it usually causes more problems. All of the negatives are put out on the table which causes more tension between a couple.
