Do you think technology has made emotional affairs a lot more common?
With IM, texting, email, webcams, et cetera…do you think this has created more of a downfall for marriages/relationships with the ease of use and hiding emotional affairs?

Yes, I do believe this. All the technology allows people to be and pretend like they are perfect, I advise be careful until you meet them in person and know hteir real life!!!

i have never thought about it before but i agree. now if i want something from my husband i just text him. and if we are on the phone we have nothing to say to each other so we hang up. from now on i will try to not text my husband to make our relationship stronger.

Without any doubt.
Twenty years ago I would not have known if my HSSH was still alive.
Today I am four clicks from starting an EA.
The co-ed workplace remains the largest source of affair-material.
I actually do /not/ think EA’s cause the downfall of marriages. They are a wake-up call to change things before the next step happens.

Emotional affairs are a bunch of rubbish.
It’s a made up concept to give people something further to argue about.
But yes, your point is valid regarding technology. Not only has it brought us more substitutes to marriage (porn, online gambling, even entertainment) it has made marriage less necessary.
No longer are we digging out farms and depending on one another for our very survival. A person can stay locked away in his basement all day, and still pay all the bills.
So we no longer need one another. And we’re suffering for it.
Good Luck!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s like asking “Do you think phones have made it easier for people to communicate with each other?”, it’s obviously made it easier.

Actually, I believe technology has made communication easy between people in general, but made affairs more common, I don’t think so.
People who aren’t happy in their relationships will meet other people, anywhere. When internet wasn’t popularized, people still had affairs. They met in different places: maybe at work, or the grocery shop, or a park. They got attracted, maybe the talked and exchanged numbers. They might have talked through phones, exchanged snail mail letters instead of emails. But they talked, and the affair happened.
I don’t think technology makes anyone have an affair. Someone may be on the internet all day, chat with men and women. But in the end, if they’re happy with their partner, they’re complete, no technology in the world will make them want someone else. And when you do want someone, it doesn’t matter how you get in contact, you’ll make it happen.

It’s not about technology, so now we are blaming computers, cell phones and temptation on technology. Its us humans who need to look at the big picture.

How can an electronic affair be any kind of threat. That baffles me.
