After divorce is final emotions are like a super highway. Busy, jam packed, thoughts & emotions are flying in every direction, hard to make sense of it all. There is hope. Now it is time to pick up the pieces & become a whole person again, & yes it’s possible.

Here are 5 simple tips you can use to begin to put the pieces back together starting today.

First, Take care of your inner world. Your emotions have been ripped at the seams, pretending it will be ok isn’t going to work. Do not deny your emotions, they’re giving you signals that should be taken seriously. Have a time, or many times each day when you reflect and, grieve, cry, regret… You may need many times a day in the beginning. Have a time limit, 15 minutes, maybe more, whatever you need. Each day you’ll get stronger, because healing is taking place. It may seem slow, it takes time. Spend that time alone each day.

Second, Take time for fun. Sounds crazy right. Who wants to have fun at a time like this. There is more. The reality is, happiness also heals. Do things that make you laugh. Yes, even when you do not feel like it… Keep it simple. A walk, movie, a few minutes, or hours. You’ll start to feel good about yourself.

Third, Do Something for others. There is more. There is nothing that makes you feel better then helping other people. It can sometimes be a simple thing such as giving a gift to the homeless shelter, or writing a note. It could be more involved. Start simple, just start today, this week.

Fourth, Improve yourself. Start working on yourself, & it will keep you from being angry at the world. Read a book that helps you become a better person, go straight to a seminar that helps you kick it up a notch, join a group on self improvement. You’ll start to feel hope again.

Fifth, Forgive people. After divorce you’ll look back & see where people failed you… Now is the time to forgive, let it go & move on. You may or may not actually be right. The truth is divorce is awkward for friends, families, & co workers. People do not know how to relate many times. There is more. Take a bold step & forgive, let it go. When you do you win, & you’ll feel a heavy weight removed. You’ll feel better about yourself
